samaria: close geographically, distant culturally

Picture
When we speak of being witnesses to people in Samaria, we are referring to the people who are distinct from us culturally but live nearby. We need to be intentional about creating relationships with them.

Casa Chirilagua: Casa Chirilagua is a group of people who are “learning together to love their neighbors as themselves” located in a latino neighborhood in Alexandria, VA.  They are a Christian faith-based not-for-profit outreach that seeks to develop relationships with families to see the Chirilagua neighborhood transformed by Christ. Christ the King supports Casa Chirilagua through mentoring, volunteering at their after-school program, and helping with periodic events.

Carpenter’s Shelter: Carpenter's Shelter provides shelter, guidance, education, and advocacy for homeless individuals and families who seek sustainable independence and stability. Christ the King supports Carpenter’s Shelter through providing bi-monthly meals, sponsoring Christmas gifts for residents, and staffing a winter overflow shelter.

Bethany House: Bethany House was organized to help women and their children who have suffered from domestic violence regain health and dignity and become re-established in their community by providing temporary housing and support. Christ the King supports Bethany House by providing trainings, hosting dinners, and donating services such as carpentry and gardening.
